Description
“The World’s Oldest Star Atlas” is a free 1-hour lecture by Calgary archaeologist Dr. Nicholas David about new research on an ancient Chinese star atlas.
Archaeology and astronomy combine as Dr. David describes a star atlas thought to date from the T’ang Dynasty around AD 650, and its probable author. He’ll review how it was discovered in Dunhuang, China, how it was used, the Chinese constellations it depicts, its accuracy and how it compares to our modern, western view of the sky.
Dr. Nicholas David, Ph.D. is Emeritus Professor of Archaeology at the University of Calgary
